The amount of time and effort, sweat and tears that go into making movies is impressive. Just take a look at the intricacies required in applying movie makeup on Hollywood actors. Naomi Grossman, American Horror Story Series

Robin Williams, Mrs Doubtfire

The life of a Hollywood movie makeup artist is difficult and involved, even if it’s exciting and purposeful. But makeup artists aren’t one homogenous group of professionals.

You have 4 main movie makeup artist roles. Starting with key makeup artists who design the makeup worn by the lead actors. In other words, they take care of the stars.

They also come up with the more complicated and intricate makeup designs and oversee other employees to make sure that there’s visual continuity and consistency in how the makeup looks throughout shooting the entire movie.

Richard Armitage, The Hobbit

Doug Jones, Crimson Peak

Chris Hemsworth, Avengers Endgame

Then there are your run-of-the-mill makeup artists who are responsible for making non-lead and supporting actors look good. They’re under orders to turn the key makeup artists’ visions into reality.

Of course, not much would be done without makeup assistants who help organize makeup kits, do other small but necessary tasks, and lend a hand to the artists with whatever they might need. They’re the unsung heroes of every movie.

Lastly, there are special effects makeup artists who probably have some of the coolest jobs in the movie industry. They create special makeup effects, such as prosthetics and the like.

Richard Brake, Game Of Thrones

Gary Oldman, Darkest Hour

Danny DeVito, Batman Returns

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terminator

Karen Gillan, Avengers

Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool 2

Tim Curry, Legend

Watch Beyonc and Jay-Z’s powerful speech at the GLAAD Media Awards

Image: Kevin Mazur / Getty Images for Roc Nation

America’s foremost power couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z were presented with the Vanguard Award at Thursday night’s GLAAD Media Awards, where they delivered a powerful joint speech.

When GLAAD announced the award earlier this month, there was some confusion about why the two were being honored despite not being members of the LGBTQ community. However, the Vanguard Award is generally given to a public figure who does not necessarily identify as LGBTQ, but who has, according to GLAAD, “made a big difference in promoting equality and acceptance of LGBTQ people.” (In 2018, for example, Britney Spears was honored.)

In a moment that understandably delighted people on Twitter, Beyoncé first called out drag queen Shangela, who performed a Beyoncé-themed medley earlier in the night (and got a standing ovation.) “I put a run in my stocking from Shangela,” she said right after taking the stage.

Soon after, she also made an extremely good “Formation” reference. “To choose who you love is your human right, how you identify and see yourself is your human right. Who you make love to and take that ass to Red Lobster is your human right,” she said. (That sound you hear is every single Beyoncé fan screaming with joy.)

Both Bey and Jay dedicated the award to family members. Jay-Z thanked his mother, Gloria Carter, who publicly came out in 2017 on her son’s album 4:44. (She received a Special Recognition Award from GLAAD at last year’s ceremony.)”I get to follow in her footsteps of spreading love and acceptance,” he said.

In what was perhaps the speech’s most emotional moment, Beyoncé spoke about her late uncle, who lived with HIV. “I want to dedicate this award to my Uncle Johnny, the most fabulous gay man I ever knew,” she said. “He lived his truth. He was brave and unapologetic during a time when this country wasn’t as accepting … I’m hopeful that his struggles served to open pathways for other young people to live more freely.”

You can watch selections from the speech below.

This Bruno Mars lyric soap opera starring Kate Beckinsale is hilariously over the top

Creating viral late night content is a pretty competitive task that requires plenty of originality. It’s also something James Corden seems to have a knack for.

In the sketch above, Kate Beckinsale and Milo Ventimiglia star alongside The Late Late Show host in a soap opera made up entirely of Bruno Mars lyrics.

Cue some gloriously hammy dramatics and a splendid use of the “Uptown Funk” chorus.

Ariana Grande sings Celine Dion as a toddler, predictably nails it

Ariana Grande has been perfecting her diva impressions for years.

Ariana Grande is well-known for her superb Celine Dion impression, but she’s been perfecting it, Carpool Karaoke-style, from an early age.

The “thank u, next” pop star posted a clip on Instagram of her tiny toddler self singing along to the Canadian icon’s single “The Reason” in the car — and it’s almost pitch perfect.

As E! News pointed out, Dion’s track dropped in 1997, when Grande was but four years old, so she could be around this age in the clip.

Grande posted another sweet moment of early car karaoke on Instagram, in a clip featuring her mother, Joan Grande. It’s from the same album, Let’s Talk About Love, but this time it’s Dion’s earnest, show-stopping duet with Barbra Streisand, “Tell Him.”

“We still sing this,” she captioned the post. “She’s still barbara and still this stunning and cute if not more so.”

Grande’s mother responded with as much adorableness on Twitter. “Every mother’s question to their 4 year old daughter, “am I Celine or Barbra?” We are cute!” she tweeted.

The 25-year-old singer has performed her impression of Dion and other fellow female pop singers multiple times, notably on Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show and Saturday Night Live

Grande claimed during a 2016 appearance on Elvis Duran and The Morning Show that Dion was so into the SNL sketch that she told Grande, “When I saw you, I peed.”

High praise.

Meghan Markle breaks royal protocol with her dark nail polish because she’s a rebel queen

Meghan Markle is a breath of fresh air. Not only is she a women’s rights advocate, she’s also subtly but effectively bringing the royal family into the 21st century.

The duchess’ surprise appearance at the British Fashion Awards caused a bit of a stir on social media because her nail polish broke with royal tradition.

Judging by the photos, Meghan opted for a black or rouge noir shade of nail polish to match her one-shoulder black gown. Per People magazine, black nail varnish is “a rare choice” for members of the royal family. The Queen’s go-to colour is Essie’s Ballet Slippers, which she’s been using 1989 when the royal hairdresser declared it “the only colour Her Majesty would wear.”

This long-overdue break with tradition caused a flurry of excitement on Twitter, with fans hailing her “a gorgeous rebel”.

Keep up the good work, Meghan.

Jodie Whittaker will be returning for Season 12 of ‘Doctor Who’

Jodie Whittaker is still The Doctor.

God is a woman and so is The Doctor for one more season, at least.

Jodie Whittaker, who’s currently playing The Doctor in Season 11 of Doctor Who, just confirmed that she will be returning to her role of extraterrestrial Time Lord in the legendary BBC sci-fi series for Season 12.

Whittaker told The Hollywood Reporter that she’s definitely not ready to hand over the Doctor Who-baton to another actor just yet.

“It’s such an incredible role,” Whittaker told THR. “It’s been an extraordinary journey so far and I’m not quite ready to hand it over yet.”

Just one previous Doctor, Christopher Eccleston, only lasted for one season (Season 1 in 2005.) The other actors have had between two and six years as The Doctor.

While Whittaker’s performance as the first female Doctor in Doctor Who’s55-year history has been widely praised by critics, there was a good deal of backlash when Whittaker was revealed as the 13th Doctor last year.

Whittaker seemed pretty chill about it, though. She explained in an interview with the BBC that the character of The Doctorrepresents everything that’s exciting about change.

I want to tell the fans not to be scared by my gender,Whittaker said. “The fans have lived through so many changes, and this is only a new, different one, not a fearful one.”

Please bring your bad-ass attitude to Season 12, Jodie.

Stanley Tucci’s kids had to explain Pete Davidson’s ‘Tucci Gang’ to him

Earlier this year, SNL’s Pete Davidson paid tribute to someone he considered to be an under-appreciated character actor in a “Gucci Gang” parody as brilliant as it was obvious.

“Tucci Gang,” as the viral sketch was called, was a celebration of The Hunger Games star Stanley Tucci. Tucci told Seth Meyers on Late Night that he was “completely shocked” by the rap tribute.

“I didn’t know what it was based on, so my children had to explain it to me,” Tucci said.

“It’s brilliant and I was very flattered.”
